Summary:

Your neurosurgical team will discuss with you about how much tumour they can remove safely during your tumour surgery. They will talk to you about removing the contrast enhancing area (part of the tumour that lights up with the dye that goes in the drip in your arm during your MRI scan). This paper discusses different amounts of tumour removed (“extent of resection”) and what the benefit to the patient may be. It suggests that the volume of tumour left behind may be more important than the proportion of the overall tumour removed.
