CarerHelp – if you care for someone with a life-limiting illness

CarerHelp is an Australian government-funded, free, online platform designed to support Australian carers who are caring for someone with a life-limiting illness. It provides a wealth of practical resources, expert information, and emotional support to guide carers through the complexities of end-of-life care.

CarerHelp covers a range of topics, from preparing for caregiving, to managing advanced illness, and navigating grief after caregiving ends. The teams involved with developing CarerHelp includes the Centre for Palliative Care at St. Vincent’s Hospital, CareSearch, and Carers Australia.

The platform is structured into five key pathways to help carers at every stage. Each pathway offers clear, relevant information, practical tools, and helpful tips:

  • When someone needs care
  • Caring when death is a possibility
  • Preparing for dying
  • When the person is dying
  • After caring

CarerHelp includes a range of resources on areas such as health and wellbeing, grief and loss and available support services. It also features Carer Voice, where carers share their experiences and advice, providing valuable peer support. The platform ensures inclusivity by offering culturally appropriate resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTIQ+ carers, rural and remote communities, and multilingual users.
