Frequently asked questions about the process of how to submit your story to Brain Tumours Online.
The stories shared on Brain Tumours Online are submitted by anyone who has been affected by brain tumours. We want to provide a space for anyone who has been affected to share what their experience has been like.
We welcome stories from those who at some point have been diagnosed with a brain tumour, their carers, friends, family, and healthcare providers.
When you submit your story you have the option to publish your story anonymously, under a nickname, or under your real name. We will post whether you are a patient, carer, professional (or other), age or age group, and location (e.g. state and metro/regional) within Australia. Keep in mind we will ask for your email address and name for our content editors to get in touch with you, but this information will not be shared publicly with anyone outside of the Brain Tumours Online content editing team.
You can submit your story via our story submission form.
When you submit your story to Brain Tumours Online you are consenting to share your story and any images you choose to include on the Brain Tumours Online website.
Due to the high volume of stories we receive, please note that we won’t be able to respond to you right away. We try to give every story as much love and attention as it needs, and that requires a bit of time spent back and forth with every person who submits one. Ideally, you should expect to hear from our content editors within 30 days of submitting your story.
When you submit your story, it goes into a queue of stories that our content editors have to read and review. We have to make sure we’ve captured enough details to construct a story and that the submission doesn’t contain offensive or personally-identifying information. After that, a content editor will construct a draft with your responses and get in touch with you to review the story with you. We want to make sure the story is still true to your vision before we publish it. After you and the content editors have agreed on the final draft of the story, it will be published on the Brain Tumours Online website.
We love that you want to get involved. The first step to submitting your story is simply writing. We’ve also put together some prompts that might help you get your creative juices flowing.
We try to publish all of the stories we receive. The only stories we wouldn’t publish would be if they didn’t contain enough information to construct a story or if they contained offensive or dangerous material.
You can get in touch with us to edit or remove your story from the Brain Tumours Online website. As a patient, you are also encouraged to nominate a contact person who you consent to edit or remove your story when you go through the story submission process. The nominated contact will be able to get in touch with Brain Tumours Online to edit and remove the story by contacting us.

We understand that it might be easier for some storytellers to share their experiences orally. In those cases, you are able to do so by recording your story and sending it to us via the email. Please still use the story submission form to submit your details, and simply mention that you would like to submit audio as part of the story submission form. We will then reach out to explain how to do so. Due to the software that we use to review your audio or video submissions, we kindly ask that you save your recording files as .mp4 files. If you need any help doing so, feel free to get in touch with us and we’ll provide some guidance.
