Event topic: Understanding brain metastases: when lung cancer spreads to the brain.
Finding out you have advanced lung cancer that has spread to your brain can be scary. It can be a lot to take in, and you may have a lot of questions about what this means and what to expect. Although your treating team is the best place to get answers specific to your individual situation, this webinar will provide some general educational information to help with understanding how lung cancer can metastasize to the brain, what might happen when this occurs, which sorts of treatments are available, and where to find further information and support.
This webinar is for people in Australia with advanced lung cancer that has spread to the brain (brain metastases or secondary brain cancer), and their family and friends.
This webinar is being organised in partnership with the Lung Foundation Australia. Prof Mei Krishnasamy (Professor of Cancer Nursing) will be joined by guest panel members with clinical expertise and personal experience of metastatic lung cancer to share their knowledge and perspectives on this topic. Our panel will also do their best to answer some of YOUR questions on this topic.
Depending on numbers of questions received, we may not be able to answer all submitted questions during the webinar timeslot, but we will do our best to cover the main topics raised by you.
About our host and panel members:
- Professor Mei Krishnasamy is Professor of Nursing (Cancer) at the University of Melbourne, and part of founding team that developed Brain Tumours Online.
- A/Prof Sagun Parakh, Medical Oncologist with expertise in both lung cancer and brain tumours, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute.
- Stacey Allerton has lived experience of lung cancer that spread throughout her body and brain. Stacey is fortunate to have received targeted therapy and stereotactic brain radiation that has controlled her brain metastases and continues to receive chemotherapy, immunotherapy and a targeted therapy. Stacey is a member of the Lung Foundation Australia’s Lung Cancer Community Advisory Committee and is the co-founder of the patient-led White Daisy Project, promoting lung cancer awareness and fundraising for lung cancer research.

How do I register to attend?
Click the blue “Register” button at the top of the page, or the “Sign up for the event” button at the bottom of the page. Both of these will take you to our Humanitix page where you can register to attend the free webinar. You can also submit a question for the panel as part of registering to attend.
When do registrations close?
Registrations (tickets) close 2 hours before the webinar is due to start. If you miss this cut-off, you will still be able to watch the recording on our website once we upload the video, usually 1-2 days after the event.
Will the webinar be recorded?
The webinar will be recorded for those unable to attend live or in case you want to re-watch it. The video will be uploaded to the Brain Tumours Online website a few days after the event.
How does the Q&A webinar work?
- The webinar will be held online using Zoom Webinar. The Q&A session will be hosted and moderated by the Brain Tumours Online team. One day prior to the event, we will send you an email with the Zoom details including the link to join.
- Attendees are encouraged to submit their questions prior to the event, when registering for the webinar. You can also submit questions live during the webinar using the Zoom Q&A function.
- Our speakers will do their best to answer your questions and will do so in a way that does not personally identify the person who submitted the question.
- Only the panellists will be visible during the webinar and in the video – attendees watching will be able to see and hear the panellists, but won’t be able to see or talk to other attendees, and attendees won’t be visible in the video recording.
